There are so many amazing animals in Australia. This is just one in a collection of designs inspired by them and the diverse and beautiful landscapes in which they live. Spotted Skink are a team whose aim is to bring you a fresh and exciting new approach to needlework. As the designer behind the range I never dreamt when living in England and studying at art school for my degree in graphic design, just how varied and challenging both my life and career would be!

Years working in widespread and demanding graphic design roles in the UK and Australia, mixed with traveling in Europe, North Africa, Asia and Australia, finally led me to marriage, building a timber home in a bush setting and two beautiful children. Then there came a crossroads in my life. I could either return to working for other people or set about creating my own business.

So, with a long term love of art and needlework, perhaps inherited from a background of family and relations who painted, stitched and designed for a living, I arrived at the concept for Spotted Skink. To offer a range of products with a difference aimed at today’s creative stitchers, and tempting enough to attract new hands to learn the joy, relaxation and personal satisfaction it brings.

P.S. Incase you’re wondering…what is a Spotted Skink?

Searching for a name for our enterprise was far more of an issue and emotive subject than many other topics we have discussed! It had to be fun, suggest an essence of Australia, not be limited by product and not easily forgotten. After many fun, silly and even obscure suggestions we settled on ‘Spotted Skink’, the name of a small Australian Lizard found in Tasmania. We felt it was memorable (once you’ve got your tongue around it!) and had design potential. So our final company logo does not contain a lizard as such, but if you look closer there are elements; small beady eyes, little flicking tails, the curves in their bodies, and a sense of movement.

After all, what’s in a name? We feel sure you will come to associate ours with quality, creativity and relaxation, and hope you find our name and products memorable enough to pay a return visit.
